COACH, OWNER

Kiki is a late bloomer when it comes to fitness. Her history of participating in sports does not go back to grade school, middle school, high school or college, but in fact, it wasn’t until after she had her second child that she realized something had to change.  Her slow rebirth started with Yoga, but at only once or twice a week she realized that it wasn't enough.  Eventually she signed up for Karate and after several years of intense study, finally received her black belt.  Through her love of charity fundraising events, Kiki found herself no longer “hating” to run, but quite the contrary.  Running for a cause seemed like a worthy challenge, that soon enough became a passion.  She’s always up for a good 5K, 10K, marathon, obstacle course/mud/relay event.  Stand up paddle is also nearing the top of her sports, as CrossFit paves the way!!  “I get to mix it up day by day; weightlifting is something I never dreamed would be so fulfilling. I feel stronger, more durable, and just more capable of life!” she adds, “I’ve become a next level hiker as I’ve become more confident in my abilities to hike rougher terrain and longer distances. I’ve noticed my cardio, strength, stamina and balance have increased.  I’ve become a huge fan of the Eastern Sierras as I now traverse the John Muir Trail.

These experiences in her life that developed in her late 30’s/ early 40’s, makes her realize that she wants to share her passion and knowledge with everyone around her. It’s never too late to make changes.  Her 3 plus years of CrossFit training and coaching have propelled her into a life that makes her want to grab a hold of each day and truly acknowledge and appreciate it.  Being a box owner with her incredible husband, Dale, is a dream come true.  She finds herself surrounded by talented, upbeat coaches and positive, awe-inspiring athletes!  She said, "We’re like a big happy family; no matter how big the day’s challenge, or how grueling the workout, you’re going to get lots of smiling faces, high fives, a few expletives and a “Well done!”

Jordan comes from an active background. He grew up playing hockey and later went on to play highschool football. He now works as an EMT in South Orange County. In Jordan's free time, he enjoys doing Crossfit with his friends, hiking, fishing, scuba diving and many other outdoor activities.

Crossfit has allowed Jordan to be a better EMT. It gives him the energy and strength he needs to maintain a high level of performance over a longer period of time.

He became a Crossfit coach to continue his passion of helping others. He loves the feeling of helping others get their lives back, time with their children back and a sense of accomplishment back. He enjoys opening others eyes to what they can accomplish no matter their age and size. Here at Crossfit to the Core he adds to a family environment with a strong sense of comradery. This is why he chose to coach at Crossfit to the Core.

Kevin was a former Infantry Marine, mulitple deployments to the most dangerous places in the world. He understands the mentality it takes to overcome great and daunting obstacles in life. He played all sports growing up, including soccer, football and hockey.

CrossFit has changed his life and is now his life. After falling by the wayside and dealing with a lot of personal issues after combat and family struggles, CrossFit has renewed his passion for life and has renewed his existence in this world to continue to help people live better lives.

Kevin is a CrossFit coach because there is nothing else in this world he would rather do. He feels like he is here to somehow help people live better lives. He is very proud of everyone and anyone that even wanders through the doors to any CrossFit gym. It shows him they have somewhat of an interest of bettering themselves and, as selfish as it sounds, it brings him happiness and a feeling that people still care. He loves showing people what they are capable of, sometimes they just need someone else to push them or believe in them.

A favorite quote of his from Pat Sherwood, a big name in the CrossFit community, says it simply, "The goal is to get fit, make it the best hour of your day, stay safe, turn up the music, high five some people, and blow off some steam. So remember that. Relax. Have fun. Workout."

CALLAN WARTHEN

COACH

Celeste has played roller hockey and ice hockey since she was 8 and has been lucky enough to travel the world while playing hockey. She doesn't think she'll ever stop playing hockey! She has also been on the coaching end for about 5 years now and has learned so much that has transferred to every aspect of her life.

She believes that Crossfit simply gives you a new perspective of what people are mentally and physically capable of. She feels that the community and everything you get out of being at the gym simply makes your life better.

Celeste became a coach because it just made sense to her that that would be her next step. She wanted to be that person that helps someone be a little bit better at something, especially when they thought they never could be. She thinks that it's just as satisfying for a coach as it is for her athletes to see improvement.

Callan grew up in a military family and sports were a big part of his life.  Through elementary school, high school and and college, he always thought of himself as an athlete.  Then, like a lot of people he got away from sports as he got into his career in the hospitality industry.

Callan got into crossfit a few years ago and was immediately hooked. It made him feel like an athlete again.  The methodology just made sense even when he thought about it critically.  Eventually, he decided to leave the hospitality industry and pursue a career in crossfit.  He thinks the experience of traveling with his military family and the experience in the hospitality industry were extremely valuable to him as a coach.  Those experiences helped him relate to people from all ages and different cultures.

His background in sports is also invaluable to him as a coach. That experience helps him push people when they need to be pushed, encourage people when they need to be encouraged, work on weaknesses and focus on technique.  Ultimately he became a crossfit coach because when he thought about what the most important thing in life is, health was at the top of his list. He feels as a crossfit coach, he is helping people achieve health through sustained fitness. He thinks it's rewarding to think thathe may have a part in others living longer, happier lives.

Dale Macdonald is the Owner and Head Coach of CrossFit to the Core. He is a CrossFit Level 2 Trainer with certifications in Olympic Lifting, Gymnastics and Goal Setting, as well as a BS in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. If you're looking for a coach who is a good looking twenty-something, has always been a career athlete, always been in great shape, and always makes the correct nutritional choices…then Dale is NOT the coach for you! However, if you are looking for a coach who understands what it feels like to be long passed 25 years old, be out of shape, overweight, injured, battling personal demons and now has overcome many (not all) of them AND has a passion for helping others to do the same…then Dale IS the coach for you! Dale starting doing CrossFit in February 2011 at CrossFit Huntington Beach.  He was 41 years old, twenty-plus pounds overweight, had a high-stress career in finance, a horrible diet and was only 1 year removed from a 27-year cigarette addiction. He was definitely not the image one would conjure when they thought of "CrossFitter." Think round, red guy waiting for a heart attack. How he changed from that guy to the guy you now see in the box is nothing short of miraculous and is definitely a story worth hearing (I'll bet his wife had something to do with it)! We are working on linking a video of his story to this bio, but for now, you'll just have to ask Dale about it the next time you see him. While he really enjoys coaching and mentoring younger (under 30) athletes, Dale's true passion is in helping "masters" athletes (35+) to "get their fit back." He preaches "baby steps" and "work at your own pace." "Slow and steady wins the race, there's no hurry...You have the rest of your life to get good at this stuff." He understands that there are vast differences in the training and recovery requirements for masters athletes versus younger athletes, and he does his best to practice what he preaches. Dale is married to our other owner and coach, Kiki, and has 2 beautiful daughters, Cami and Lindsay. He enjoys snow skiing, hiking, obstacle course races, adventure races, and golfing. He loves his coed D league softball team "The Burpees"…oh and he's the singer and lead guitarist of a local rock band…and of course he loves doing all things CrossFit.
